ESRI is an international GPS software corporation dedicated to environmental concerns. In designing the corporate headquarters according to a Green Building Template, it was imperative that we still maintain strikingly distinctive aesthetics and a fitting presentation for their many international clients and visitors.
| The design incorporated a stunning three story glass atrium in the center of the building and sky lighting throughout the facility, which maximized daylight. The design utilized many arching, open, and asymmetrical ceilings. The lighting design therefore required great expertise and attention to detail to effectively employ daylight, evenly light the building, complement key architectural features, and maintain a unique beauty. To counteract extra HVAC need created by the vast use of daylight, both efficient chilled water cooling and Solar PV systems were developed to minimize utilities. The facility also featured an auditorium, HVAC developed to run at low velocity by use of underground return ductwork that would create efficient cooling with minimal noise. |
The team reached the harmonious balance of sustainable and visually dramatic, and the careful balance with ultra-efficient and comfortably productive environment.

Design of a LEED Silver Certified Building and also to pass through DSA plan checking. Project required special attention dealing with the Inland Empire climate challenges along with a unique building type.
The design and development teams decided early on to use an integrated project approach in order to deliver a highly coordinated project to the state. As a part of this collaborative effort, Deign West utilized a number of inventive environmental solutions. Some of these include photocell technology that maximized daylight harvesting, a water source heat pump system to integrate with building aesthetics while achieving the highest efficiencies, and CO2 sensors with motorized dampers in the HVAC system.
Through the collaboration of an integrated project approach, LEED Silver certification was successfully met. Beyond this, due to the well thought out design and the continuing active communication throughout construction, the LEED commissioners referred to this project as “the easiest project to commission” that they had ever come by.
