LEED for Existing Buildings Outpacing New Construction

 The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced on December 7, 2011 that, for the first time in its history, the cumulative square footage of buildings certified under its LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EBOM) program is greater than LEED-certified new construction.

Enhanced commissioning, as defined by the LEED program, includes design-phase reviews, O&M training verification, the development of a systems manual for the commissioned systems, and an end-of-warranty period review meeting.

Energy and Atmosphere credit 3 calls for enhanced commissioning, which includes:

  • Contractor Submittals Review
  • Verify Training
  • 10th month warranty & operations review
  • System manual
